Engineering Services

Kim Controls offers a full range of engineering services focused on developing, implementing, and supporting factory automation and industrial control systems. We work in partnership with you to define the best control system for your needs, and your budget. Our commitment to creating and maintaining strong communication channels between all parties creates the right environment for successful, on-time, and low-stress project completion.

System Design

Electrical Design is the foundation of a successful automation project. Without proper design, a project is destined to fail. We take the time and collaborate with our clients to get the details right. With a solid foundation built on good design practices, your project will be successful!

We formally document the Electrical Design in AutoCAD and deliver a fully documented system upon project completion. We are obsessive about proper documentation and update any and all changes that happen throughout the project lifecycle.

Design for:

  • Controls / Control Panels
  • HMI / Operator Interface / PC
  • SCADA / Data Acquisition
  • Motion / Motor Sizing
  • Machine Guarding (aluminum extrusion)
  • Machine Framing (aluminum extrusion)

Our CAD designers can provide minor updates to existing packages or document your entire system. Packages may include schematics, assemblies, field devices diagrams, and interconnect diagrams. These drawings may be provided with or without the assistance of our engineering department depending on the complexity of the job.

 Drafting / Design  for:

  • AutoCAD Drafting
  • Design Development
  • SolidWorks
  • Hand Sketches to CAD (let us make your ideas a reality)

Programming

Our engineering staff has extensive experience in programming various controllers including PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and related database systems. We also specialize in motion control and robotic systems.

We work with our clients to truly understand their process and what they are trying to accomplish with their controls. We thoroughly explain the capabilities and limitations to assist our clients in maximizing their investment and productivity.

Our commitment to providing effective solutions for machine control and process control utilizes today's most advanced technologies to provide the perfect system for your application. Some of the technologies include:

  • Servo Systems
  • Motion Control
  • SQL Database
  • PLC/PAC
  • Visual Basic
  • HMI
  • Proprietary Software

Kim Controls has a wide range of machine control knowledge. Whether the project is small or large we are prepared to handle it. We will provide turnkey systems or join forces as a player in a larger effort. We will provide controls for a new system or updated controls for an existing machine. Our machine expertise includes:

  • Bag Fillers
  • Assemblers
  • Conveying
  • Presses
  • Material Handling
  • Packaging

We have a variety of experiences with process control. From simple algorithms and indexing processes to highly responsive PID control we will provide an intelligent solution. Some of our expertise includes:

  • Batch Control
  • Climate Control
  • Blending Systems
  • Motion Control

Project Management

An excellent plan that is executed poorly will likely result in project failure or cost overruns. Project management is a critical component to project success. We not only manage our projects, but we can also provide you with services to manage a project provided by a third party. This can include site supervision of installation teams, subcontractor selection and supervision, and quality control. We can even generate a scope of work for your subcontractors to help you receive accurate bids and schedules. We will help define:

  • Deliverables
  • Functionality
  • Technology
  • Schedule

Call our Engineered Solutions team today to discuss your project. We work with our clients to clearly define the project scope, develop the schedule, and then deliver on time!

Commissioning

System commissioning is a vital part of the control system lifecycle and is often not given the attention to detail that it requires. We understand this importance and know what downtime means to you. Kim Controls provides a detailed cutover and commissioning plan well in advance of any on-site commissioning events. The plan will consist of a task schedule with dependencies for all parties involved so the process can be executed quickly and effectively.

We will adhere to your acceptance criteria or we can draft our own checklist based on your requirements. Prior to commissioning, we will simulate your system and test against these criteria to minimize on-site debugging and code writing.

Field Service

Our Field Service Engineers are dedicated to providing technical assistance to our customers. Our main focus is to give you a direct link to the experts who can solve your problem. We will work with you to help provide a quick and efficient solution to get your machine back online.

We will also provide on-site engineering to make updates to your existing systems and provide minor control updates to large system upgrades.

Custom Training

You just took ownership of a new control system and you get this sinking feeling in your gut. You signed off on a brand new system and nobody knows how to operate or maintain it. Most contractors are eager to close out a project and quite often neglect to provide the required training before they leave. Kim Controls will not leave you stranded. We have extensive experience in developing and delivering specialized training and it is a line item on our acceptance criteria. The project is not complete until we can check this off the list.

Please contact us if you have any questions regarding our engineering services including system design, programming, project management, commissioning, field service, and custom training.
